Cape Town, South Africa – 12 December, 2019 – Tencent Africa’s focus on local gaming continues from its recent release of dedicated African servers to include Africa’s first exclusive in-game item.
The limited-time item is a parachute with an African continent detail in white against a PUBGM orange and black backdrop with the hashtag #AFRICAUNITE emblazoned across it. The special item is available in-app through the Africa Unite! event running from 12-23 December 2019, but daily logins from today are needed to redeem the item at the end of the event period. Players will receive additional rewards for the logins leading up to the main item’s drop.
Tencent Africa is committed to growing mobile gaming in Africa, where a lack of local servers has traditionally been an issue holding back African gamers’ participation in esports.
African servers for PUBGM were pushed live in the last quarter of 2019, where they have been delivering low-ping optimised gaming experiences for African gamers who have selected to compete on the Europe drop-down. To drive these pings even lower on the African servers, PUBG Mobile Africa encourages all players to select the Europe drop-down before starting matching in games. The servers operate at optimal levels when full and this process is required from local-based gamers to achieve low latency.
Tramayne Monaghan, Head of PUBG Mobile in Africa, says Tencent Africa sees esports as the future of sport, and he believes we (Africa) can crown a global champion.
To further that end, the company has newly partnered with Mettlestate, a premium esports authority, to release the Git Gud challenges. Here players are given the opportunity to complete daily challenges for a chance to win cash prizes every day, along with exclusive merch, and vouchers. The Git Gud challenges are open to all African PUBGM gamers and are available until 29 February, 2020.
